Gippsland Women’s Health Service

November 2012 019

It is only natural that I would want to blow my own trumpet a little!

I work for Gippsland Women’s Health Service as the Communications Coordinator. It is ‘small but mighty’ not for profit organisation located in the beautiful area of Gippsland in Victoria.

Gippsland Women’s Health Service wanted to identify new ways to communicate health messages to young women in the community by setting up an online presence. Little did we know that by using social media we would end up engaging with a whole new audience, attracting media enquiries and building a new profile for the organisation.

We initially created a Facebook and Twitter page for the service in 2010. At the time this was considered quite progressive for Women’s Health. We have a small community of likers and followers and we post regular links and updates about all aspects of women’s health.

The profile of the organisation was raised in the community, traffic to the website increased and readership of the quarterly newsletters now promoted online, rose exponentially.

Other not for profit groups took our lead and we have consulted with many groups on how to set up and maintain a social media presence.

Early this year I was lucky enough to speak at the Australian Women’s Health Conference on our experience with social media and online engagement.

My own personal example of using Social Media for Social Good.
